Kendall Motor Oil was founded in 1881 in Bradford, Pennsylvania, by entrepreneurs William Willis, E. Childs, who established the Bradford Oil Refinery near Kendall Creek. The brand faced early bankruptcy and legal challenges from competitor Lewis Emery, but was saved in 1902 when Penn Lubricating Co. Under Koch's leadership, Kendall became the first refiner to offer motor oil good for 2,000 miles (introducing the iconic two-finger logo in 1928) and the first to nationally market motor oil in quart cans (1933). The company pioneered several industry firsts, including SAE 10W-30 oil (1953) and specialized racing oils for motorcycles and sports cars (1960s). Today, the brand is distributed by Petroleum Service Company, continuing its legacy as one of the oldest lubricant brands in the world.
